Ballina Irish Garden Bird Survey 2024

February 2024 starts the initial stages of the Ballina/Boher Tidy Towns Irish Garden Bird Survey.

The long-term goal of this survey by Ballina Tidy Towns is to unveil the rich tapestry of wild bird species inhabiting our locality. These snapshots will be meticulously gathered over the coming years, fueling our understanding of how climate warming impacts the rise or fall of various bird species.

In the short term, the Tidy Town committee is hard at work rejuvenating the Biodiversity signs scattered throughout the village. This invaluable information will be essential to this project.

Ballina Boher Tidy Town 2024: Let’s Clean Up Our Community!

As we look forward to the year 2024, we at Ballina Boher Tidy Town are excited to announce our new initiative: Let’s Clean Up Our Community! Our goal is to work together as a team to beautify and maintain the cleanliness of our town.

We believe that a clean and tidy community is not only aesthetically pleasing but also promotes better health and well-being for our residents. We want to encourage everyone to take responsibility for their surroundings and to work together to create a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment for all.

To achieve our goal, we will be organising regular clean-up events and initiatives throughout the year. We will also be partnering with local businesses, organizations, and schools to raise awareness and promote community involvement.

We believe that by working together, we can make a real difference in the appearance and overall quality of our town. We look forward to seeing everyone come together and take pride in our community. Let’s make Ballina Boher a shining example of a clean and beautiful Irish town!

A Different Type of Christmas Tree

Shannon View Christmas Tree 2023

This December, a cool new Christmas tree popped up next to the Shannon View housing estate by the R496. It’s not your average tree – this one’s made of stainless steel!

Members of the Ballina/Boher Tidy Towns, with the helping hands of Councillor Phyll Bugler, carefully erected this tree. It was a serious affair, with soil flying and sweat dripping, but hey, who knew giving back to your community could be this exhilarating!

Real Christmas trees have a carbon footprint of 3.5 kilograms of CO2 if disposed of properly, but if they end up in landfills the footprint increases four-fold to 16kg of CO2.

This new structure reflects a forward-looking approach aimed at ensuring sustainability and durability for the foreseeable future.

Christmas tree lights used are battery lights which are low-intensity lights and are placed on a timer to avoid dusk or dawn when animals can be most active.
